This series was created when the Xuzhou Chained Woman incident came to light in late January 2022 in the Feng district of Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China. The incident is unique in that it and subsequent events unfolded during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Chinese New Year, with female citizens traumatised by the paradoxical circumstances of the celebrations and a devastating case of human trafficking, false imprisonment, sexual assault and severe mistreatment.
